Superstar? More like Freak.
So, I guess I had accumulated this preconceived notion over time, that somehow that which made me different from the Japanese would somehow make me popular. People had told me I would be like a star over here cause I am so big, and people would want to talk to me, and take pictures and all that jazz. Well, it's not like I really believed that or anything, but in all reality, it feels quite the opposite. Being on the subway or on the bus, or even just sitting in the park, people just stare at me. some make it more obvious than others. Most people are tactical about it, and try to be inconspicuous. But even still there are some (mostly older folks) that will outright just stare you down like you have a twelve pound tumor growing out of the side of your head, or unnaturally long nose-hair that you've braided or something.

Have you taken a close evaluation? Maybe the nose hair is long.
Luke,Grandmom & I also got lost one time in Kyoto. We were looking for the emperor's palace and were on a bus and like you,had no idea where we were. We did have a folder with a picture of the palace, showed it to our bus driver and he was very kind. Even stopped in the middle of the block and pointed the direction for us. Have a great stay in Japan and you will have memories to last the rest of your life.
Love, Granddad-"D"
is that any different than how people treat you here? he looks like a weirdy.
Don't you remember the picture I drew for you where the Japanese people were running from you because they thought you were godzilla? You should have listened to my warning...
Luke-san,
How long have you felt like others are looking at you? I was just reading another blog: "Shigeru Is NOT In the USA".blogspot.com and in his blog he was talking about how he's sure a tall American was staring at him in the Tokyo subway, probably because of his age. He said the American was trying to be subtle but Shigeru KNEW he was being watched. Pity. He felt like such a freak.
